Bears give disappointing Caleb Williams update for preseason opener vs. Dolphins
Sorry, Chicago Bears fans. You won’t get a chance to watch Caleb Williams in the team’s first preseason game against the Miami Dolphins on August 10.
Coach Ben Johnson confirmed Williams’ game status during a recent appearance on the Hoge and Jahns show.
This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Williams will get plenty of reps during the Bears’ joint practices with the Dolphins. There’s no reason to expose him to any unnecessary injury risk.
Take a look at what happened to Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson during Thursday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.
While it’s true that the Cincinnati Bengals allowed Joe Burrow to play two series in Week 1 of the preseason, and Geno Smith logged a few reps for the Las Vegas Raiders, Johnson’s instincts should be trusted on this one.
Expect Caleb Williams to play in Week 2’s preseason game against the Buffalo Bills.
